A BRASS band has been voted the best in the country in a top competition.
Langbaurgh Brass, which is based in North Skelton, east Cleveland, beat 19 other bands to scoop the first prize in the Pontins sponsored Brass Band Championships, held at the Prestatyn Sands holiday camp last weekend.
The first prize of £1,250 and a commemorative silver trophy marks another highlight in a fantastic year for the band.
Earlier this year, it gained first place in the second section of the Durham Brass Band League competition and second place in the National Brass Band Championships qualifying contest.
In the national finals, held in Preston Guildhall last month, the band was fourth, and was the highest placed band from the Northern region.
Musical director Tim Oldroyd said: "We are very proud of our success and are proud to represent our region in this way.
"The work we undertake for competition success also means that our concerts are of a very high quality."
Next year, the band hopes to achieve more competition success and has a number of prestigious concert booking for next summer.

Langbaurgh Brass, together with The Ever Ready Band, Ferryhill Town Band and Barnard Castle Band recently recorded a CD of marches by North-East composer George Allen. Copies are available by calling Mr Oldroyd on (01287) 280002, or from the band's website at www.langbaurghbrass.org.uk
