A Man has been remanded in custody for a further seven days over allegations of sending threatening mail in the post.

Ian Julian Walker, 45, of Sherwood Road, Thornaby, did not speak but nodded his head when the clerk at Teesside Magistrates Court, Middlesbrough, asked him to confirm his name and address in a three minute hearing, yesterday.

Walker is charged with that between December 27, 1999 and October 22, this year "at Thornaby caused to the public by sending threatening mail and making threatening phone calls to schools and retail outlets, contrary to common law."

He is further charged that "without lawful excuse made to Paul Stainthorpe a threat to kill him intending that the said Paul Stainthorpe would fear that the said threat would be carried out, contrary to section 16 of the offences against the person act, 1861."

Walker already remanded to custody from an earlier hearing was against remanded to prison until November 9.
