CIU Championships

The semi-finals and finals of both the Individual Championship and the Pairs Championship will be played at Murton Victoria Club on Monday, November 19 (7.30pm).

The semi-finalists in the Individual Championship are J. Ashett (New Hesledon), G. Curry (Relton Terrace), J. Sneath (Crook Belle Vue) and D. Young (Glendale).

Tow Law Bass

Tommy Cairns took the only point for Cornsay Royal Oak when they entertained Tow Law Cattle Mart, whose high scoring performance lifted them into second place, just two points behind the leaders, Newhouse Club. The Mart's single winners were Malcolm Boughey, Bob McFadden, Colin Boughey senior, Mike Henry and Colin Boughey junior.

Esh Stag's Head are in third place, only three points behind the Mart with a match in hand with Tow Law New Market A a further three behind but also with a match in hand.

The leading scorers were D. Brown with two 140s, C. Metcalfe and J. Henderson with 140 each for Hamilton Row, B. Hutchinson 140 for McKennas and B. Jones 140 for Newhouse Club.

Crook Coach and Horses completed their fifth whitewash success of the season when they visited Billy Row Royal George. This has pushed them 42 points ahead of the nearest rivals with just one match of the second half of the season played.

Willington League

After a poor start to the season, the reigning champions, the Victoria Club moved above the halfway mark in the table when they only dropped two points on their visit to Willington Brewer's Droop.

The home side managed to take two singles through Mark Williams and Alan Richardson but the Victoria had wins from Norman Bolam, Alan Beck, Ian Mavin and Ian Breen.

The Victoria took all three doubles with wins from Ian Mavin with Alan Richardson, Alan Bolam with Ian Breen and Bobby Hall with Norman Bolam. Victory was completed when Ian Breen beat the home side's Alan Richardson, who caused some confusion because the visitors had a player by the same name.

The outstanding performance came from Ian Breen with a maximum and a 14 darts check out. The other maximums of the week came from Alan Lee of Willington Club and Jimmy Fleming of the Brewer's Droop.

The Prospect Club lead the table by eight points with the unbeaten Willington Black Horse Inn in second spot, four ahead of Willington Club. The Black Horse have a match in hand of the other two teams.

The Team Singles Knock-Out Cup qualifying stages were held at two venues with Crook Coach and Horses and Oakenshaw moving forward to Finals Night from one and Crook Three Blue Bells with either Crook White Swan or Croft Social Club left to fight out the other place after the matches at their venue went on too late.
