LAST weekend was a memorable one for Langbaurgh Brass as they beat 19 other bands to scoop the Section Three first prize in the Pontins-sponsored Brass Band Championships at the Prestatyn Sands holiday camp.
Winning the first prize of £1,250 and a commemorative silver trophy marks another highlight in an already fantastic year for the band, which is based in North Skelton.
Earlier this year, Langbaurgh Brass came first in the second section of the Durham Brass Band League competition and took second place in the National Brass Band Championships Qualifying Contest. In the subsequent national finals the band came fourth overall and was the highest placed band from the whole of the Northern region.
Tim Oldroyd, the band's musical director, said: "These fantastic competition results are a testament to the hard work and commitment of all our players and their families. We are proud of our success and are proud to represent our region in this way."
To book the band, which already has a number of bookings for concerts next summer, call Josie Coupland on 07747 032327.
Langbaurgh Brass, together with The Ever Ready Band, Ferryhill Town Band and Barnard Castle Band, recently recorded a CD of marches by North-East composer George Allen. Copies are available by calling Mr Oldroyd on (01287) 280002 or from www.langbaurghbrass.org.uk
