A GROUP of fundraisers collected more than £700 during a few hours spent packing groceries at the weekend.
Fourteen people took part in the drive at Asda, Stanley, in aid of the Sunderland Kidney Patients Group.
The event was organised by Doreen Telford of Euston, whose husband Denis, 67, is awaiting a transplant.
Mrs Telford said: "He had a transplant operation at Sunderland Royal Hospital, on December 16, and we nearly lost him on Christmas Day when the kidney perforated.
"He has been undergoing dialysis since and has just been placed on the transplant list again.
"We would like to thank Asda and all the customers who contributed cash at the weekend."
