FORMER pupils of a Darlington primary school, which closed in the 1970s, are trying to trace their old classmates to organise a reunion.

Elsie Murray, who attended St Andrew's CE School, in Haughton, thought up the idea after contacting former classmate Neil Wastell, who lives in Switzerland, via the latest on-line reunion website, friendsreunited.com

She said that after they got in touch, they began reminiscing about their school days, and they decided to try to contact other old classmates.

Mrs Murray said: "We left when we were 11, in 1959. The teacher was Mr Done. There were about eight or nine classes altogether in the school, but it is just our class we would like to get in touch with.

"I would especially like to meet up with my best friend, then known as Margaret Ireland.

"It is nice remembering things that happened at school, so it would be good for us all to get together again."

Mrs Murray's maiden name was Baker, and she used to live on a farm in Barmpton Village.
