TRADING standards officers are warning consumers not to commit themselves to credit agreements they cannot afford.
Next week is National Consumer Week and City of Sunderland trading standards is highlighting the problems faced by hundreds of people in the city who regularly ask for help and advice on consumer credit issues.
Tom Terrett, trading standards officer, said: "Our consumer advice section advises the public on a wide range of credit matters, ranging from repossession of goods to possible unfair terms in the contract.
"Consumers should shop around to compare interest rates, the length of the loan and the total amount payable - and always read the small print before signing."
