A HUGE party is being held next week to celebrate the achievements of young people in care.
Durham County Council's Social Services department will present about 60 awards to youngsters aged between eight and 18, in recognition of their efforts across a wide range of activities.
The event, called Let's Get Together, will take place at County Hall on Wednesday.
Century FM Radio presenter Paul 'Goffy' Gough will present the awards for sporting, academic and personal achievements.
Duncan Routley, the council's senior child care co-ordinator, said: "Just like any parent likes to celebrate the achievements of their child, the council as a corporate parent for children in care is keen to say 'well done'.
"Some have gained university places, one child has been made goalkeeper in Spennymoor's under-16s football team. These things are proper achievements which any parent would be proud of."
As well as the awards ceremony, the Let's Get Together event will feature music, quizzes and drama
