BUS drivers involved in strike action against Stagecoach North-East have criticised the firm for placing advertisements in newspapers which they say are "misleading".
Full-page adverts appeared across the region yesterday outlining the proposed pay packages offered to drivers in Darlington, Stockton and Hartlepool, ahead of Monday's second day of action.
As well as detailing the proposed new pay structure, the adverts urged readers to apply for jobs driving for the firm, leading to anger from staff
All of the services in Darlington will be affected by Monday's action, while there will be a number of buses still in operation across Teesside.
Allan Gray, of the Transport and General Workers' Union, said the figures quoted in the article failed to mention Stagecoach's removal of the drivers' premium pay rates for Saturday and Sunday work.
And he urged the firm to get back round the negotiating table rather than use such tactics days after 392 out of 402 drivers rejected the deal.
"Members are very upset about it," he said, adding the proposals also included the removal of a health scheme.
"All they have done is move money members are earning at this particular time into a new rate of pay and then added a percentage."
Stagecoach were invited to comment on Mr Gray's comments but failed to respond last night, but a spokesman did say they would be willing to continue negotiations.
