A man was treated for smoke inhalation after a fire at a house in Darlington in the early hours of this morning.

Firefighters and an ambulance crew were called to the terraced house in Lewes Road at 12.44am.

The back room of the ground floor was severely damaged by the fire, which was tackled by two fire crews from the Darlington station.

Paramedics treated the man with oxygen, but he declined the opportunity of being treated in hospital.
