AN artistic youngster has been named the overall winner of the 2002 Community Calendar Competition, organised by 13 chemical, steel and power generating companies on Teesside.

The 22 schools closest to the Wilton, Billingham and North Tees manufacturing sites submitted entries based on the theme, Seasons of the Year.

The overall winner was 14-year-old Charlotte Robinson, from Eston Park School. Her design depicted a summer floral scene and this will be used to illustrate the month of June. The design will also feature on the front cover.

Charlotte received a certificate, a watch and gift vouchers worth £25, as well as £300 for her school, from Middlesbrough Football Club midfielder Robbie Mustoe, at the club's BT Cellnet Riverside Stadium, where all the entries were on display.

There were also certificates and prizes for all the pupils and schools that took part in the competition.

As well as featuring 12 of the children's entries to illustrate the months of the year, the calendar will also include miniature versions of all 44 entries.

The community calendar has been going for 13 years and organiser Jan Ward, from Enron Teesside Operations, said: "The standard of entries was very high and the judges had some really difficult decisions to make, but Charlotte's work stood out."

The calendar, which includes information, safety advice and the times of alarm tests at the plants, will be distributed free of charge to approximately 20,000 households near to the three sites.
