A DISABLED pensioner has had her motorised scooter stolen by thieves only days after buying it with the last of her savings.

Widow Ada Cobb, 77, of Columbine Close, Marton, Middlesbrough was knocked down by a car three years ago, leaving her unable to walk without a stick and practically house bound.

Mrs Cobb also has osteoporosis and a replacement hip. She bought the £1,350 shopping scooter to be more independent.

Yesterday, she woke to find the lock on her garage door broken and the scooter gone.

She said: "I felt sick. I bought the scooter with the last of the compensation money I got after my accident. I kept the money especially for that.

"I was determined to buy one just to get me to the shops. I've only had it a week."

She is worried the vehicle may not be insured because she sent the insurance forms off just before Christmas and has not received confirmation.

"There's no way I could buy another one," she said.

Her daughter Kim Kerr said: "My mum's absolutely devastated. She'd been dying to get a scooter for ages and it really cheered her up when she got it. I can't believe people could be so nasty."

Anyone with information about the Shoprider Sunrunner 3 scooter, should call Middlesbrough Police on (01642) 303333.

"I'm just so upset. I can't get to the bus stop or anything like that and when you are stuck in a house on your own three or four days a week it's a little bit boring."
