A MAN wanted in connection with the murder of a North-East father-of-six has been arrested by armed police in Spain.

Jonathan Crossling, 36, was detained on Thursday at the popular resort of Benalmadena, near Malaga, after an international arrest warrant was issued by Cleveland Police.

He is wanted for his alleged part in an armed robbery in Middlesbrough last August. During the incident one man was killed and another received serious injuries.

Market stall holder Kalvant Singh, 41, fell to his death from the window of a brothel in Errol Street.

Michael Moody, 54, a tenant in the house, was discovered semi-conscious with severe facial injuries in a rear living room.

Three men, including Mr Crossling's brother, Jason, have already been charged with murder.

Detectives swooped on the popular Costa del Sol resort after tracing Jonathan Crossling's whereabouts.

He was seen by an investigating judge in Torremolinos who referred the case to the National Criminal Court, in Madrid, which handles extradition requests.

Mr Crossling is expected to be transferred to a prison near Madrid in the next few days.

Thomas Petch, 22, of Parkhouse Farm, Dunsdale, near Guisborough; George Coleman, 41, of Thornton Street, North Ormesby; and Jason Crossling, 32 of Fairfield Road, Middlesbrough, have denied murder. They also deny causing grievous bodily harm to Mr Moody.

In addition, Mr Petch denies causing grievous bodily harm to Paul Thompson on August 7, the day after Mr Singh's death.

They have all been remanded in custody at Teesside Crown Court.
