A RECOVERY truck driver who had no licence and no insurance has been banned from driving for 12 months.
Alan Simpson, 37, of Ashcroft Gardens, Bishop Auckland, was stopped during a routine police check on the A59 at West Marton, North Yorkshire, on August 28 last year, Skipton magistrates were told.
He was driving a Volvo recovery truck which was towing a smaller lorry.
Subsequent investigations revealed that Simpson, who had several previous convictions for motoring offences, had only ever held a provisional driving licence and had never passed a driving test.
He was fined £50 for driving without the appropriate licence, £100 for driving without insurance and ordered to pay £35 in costs.
