AIRPORT chiefs are urging people to book their summer holiday early to avoid disappointment.

Following a reduction in the number of holidays available nationwide resulting from the terrorist attacks in the US, Newcastle Airport chiefs are warning that choice and availability this year will be limited.

The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), is also warning that there are unlikely to be many last-minute bargains.

Mike Finch, marketing manager at Newcastle Airport, said: "Our aim is to really kick-start the summer holiday market and build on the success of Christmas and New Year bookings.

"We need to make holidaymakers aware of destinations available from Newcastle and urge people not to leave booking too late. We are anxious to ensure that demand does not exceed supply, which would only leave people disappointed and frustrated.

"Booking now offers the best means of guaranteeing the date and destination of their choice."

In partnership with major tour operators and high street travel agencies, Newcastle Airport is running a Get Twice the Sun promotion, until February 3, in which 33 people in the North can win £1,000 towards a holiday.

The key participating travel agents include Dawson and Sanderson, Thomas Cook, Hays Travel, Going Places, Callers Pegasus, Holiday Hypermarket, Travel Choice and numerous independent travel agents.
