EVERYBODY loses things occasionally and, after a few drinks in the pub, it is even easier to forget what you went in with.

Brolleys, hats and scarves are frequently found by bar staff as they clean up after closing time.

But staff at a York pub were amazed when they discovered what one of their customers had managed to lose - his false hands.

Judith Sissons, landlady at The Three Cranes, in St Sampson's Square, found attachments for a prosthetic hand in a bag.

"It's definitely the most unusual thing we have found in the pub," she said.

"There are a lot of interesting items left over Christmas but this tops the lot.

"Someone must be missing this item, but there was no name and address and no-one has inquired about it. It was quite a shock when we found it."

Anyone wanting to claim the artificial hand is asked to contact Mrs Sissons on (01904) 653367.

* Refuse site workers have also been amazed at some of the finds they have made in other people's rubbish.

House keys, car keys and jewellery are some of the items that have been found in the skips of household waste at Yorwaste recycling centres across North Yorkshire.

But false legs, full-size mannequins and even a set of false breasts have been unearthed in the past few months.

Peter Kennedy, household waste recycling centre manager, said: "Just when you think you have seen everything, a set of false legs and false breasts turn up."
