A PARAMEDIC sped across moors on a quad bike to reach a rambler who had fallen and hurt her arm.

The 46-year-old Middlesbrough woman slipped near Kildale, on the North York Moors, with four friends, at midday on Saturday.

An ambulance was called but was unable to get to the path leading to Baysdale Abbey, where the woman had fallen.

Instead, paramedic Stuart Dack, of Redcar, hitched a ride on a farmer's quad bike and raced a mile across moorland to reach her.

Soon after, voluntary members of Cleveland Search and Rescue Team arrived in a Land Rover and drove the woman to an ambulance. She was taken to Middlesbrough General Hospital with a suspected broken arm.

Rescue team spokesman Pete Mounsey said: "The woman was quite a long way from civilisation.

"The incident was a difficult one to deal with due to the remote location of the accident and the wet and icy conditions. The farmer with his quad bike was a great help and saved us a lot of time and effort."
