DETAILED plans for a 600-place secondary school in Ingleby Barwick look likely to be approved by councillors.

In September last year, outline planning permission was granted for the All Saints Voluntary Aided School, but councillors will meet on Friday to discuss the proposals in more detail.

The application also includes plans for a 210-place community school, with a 39-place nursery, to be known as Myton Park Primary School.

The schools will be built next to each other in Blair Avenue, with facilities including a library, sports hall and playing fields available for use by the community. It is hoped both schools will open in September next year.

The secondary school is to be designed around a semi-circle with three wings leading off it, while the primary school and nursery will be rectangular in shape.

Car parking has been planned at the front of the building. Included in the design are areas to drop off passengers.

Good access by foot and bike has been incorporated into the layout to encourage parents not to use their cars to take children to school.

One of the requirements of the plans is that the schools should submit a green travel plan to promote means of getting to school other than by car.

A report to Stockton Borough Council's planning committee says: "The provision of the secondary school, primary school and nursery are essential to address the educational needs of Ingleby Barwick. The proposed development is considered acceptable in terms of scale, design and layout."

A public meeting will be held on Thursday, at 7pm, in St Francis Church Hall, Barwick Way, Ingleby Barwick.

The meeting will give residents the opportunity to look at a display by the architects and put questions to the developers, school governors and representatives from Stockton Borough Council and the Diocese of York.

The preferred bidders for the site, the Robertson Group, which is in a consortium with the Bank of Scotland and Quayle Munroe Holdings, will give a short presentation about the plans
