Charity appeal for volunteers

Children's charity Barnado's is appealing for people in Darlington to make a New Year's resolution to support its work.

The charity needs volunteers to help keep its services running. Darlington Inclusion provides a number of services for disabled children and their families, including helping youngsters take part in mainstream education and leisure pursuits.

CAR STOLEN: A maroon Ford Fiesta was stolen from Moorside, Middlestone Moor, early on Saturday. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on (01325) 314401.

JEWELLERY HAUL: A home in Jubilee Road, Shildon, was burgled on Friday and a television, video player and jewellery worth a total of £1,000 were stolen.

CHARITY TRIP: Seven places are still available for a four-day trip to London leaving on February 8. Profits from the trip, which costs £128, will be donated to the Cancer Research Campaign. The price includes return coach travel from Barnard Castle and Darlington and accommodation at the Tower Thistle Hotel. For details and to book call (01833) 650638.

TOOLS TAKEN: A tool box and jack were stolen from a gold Nissan Prairie in Queen Street, Shildon on Friday.

VANDALS STRIKE: A silver Metro parked in Shafto Way, Newton Aycliffe, was vandalised on Friday night. Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them on (01325) 314401

DEAF SESSIONS: Regular drop-in and advice sessions for the deaf and those with hearing loss are held every Tuesday and Thursday in Darlington. On Tuesday, the sessions are held between 1pm and 3pm at Darlington Association on Disability, Horsemarket. On Thursdays, they take place between 1pm and 3pm at Central House, Gladstone Street.

CAB HELP: Volunteers are needed to help run Darlington's Citizen Advice Bureau. The organisation will give training to all volunteers and will pay travel expenses. Anyone interested should call (01325) 256166 or (01325) 380767.

BLOOD DONORS: Blood donors are invited to attend a session a St Cuthbert's Church Centre, in Darlington Market Square, tomorrow, between 2pm and 7pm.

CVS MOVE: Darlington Council for Voluntary Service has moved into temporary premises. The service will operate from Pease House, Bull Wynd, while refurbishment work is carried out. The telephone number and postal address for the group will remain the same.

ROAD WORKS: Traffic restrictions will be operating in Abbey Road and the Denes area of Brinkburn Road of Darlington from today while Northern Electric carries out work. The company has not specified how long the work will take.

RUMMAGE SALE: A rummage sale is being held at Willow Road Community Centre, Darlington, on Saturday, from 2pm to 4pm.
