A WOMAN fought off a would-be mugger who struck outside a shop.
The incident happened after the woman had called at Archie's General Store, in Morland Avenue, Colombia, Washington. She was getting back into her car when a man demanded her handbag.
The woman kicked out at the man, who ran off towards a maroon Vauxhall Cavalier, driven by a second man. The car was seen heading towards The Vic pub, in Washington.
The first man is described as in his early 20s, 5ft 4in and was wearing dark trousers and a light, padded jacket. He had black tights over his head.
Anyone with information about the incident, which happened at about 7pm on Friday, should ring the police, on 0191-454 7555.
