PUTTING a gloss on life is all in a day's work for an east Cleveland woman who has just launched her own painting and decorating business in the Redcar area.

Caroline O'Brien, 27, has been clambering up and down ladders with a paintbrush in her hand ever since she decorated her parents' home when she was a teenager.

She was made redundant 18 months ago and decided to turn her passion into her career, seeking help from the Redcar branch of InBiz, the national business support organisation with its roots in the Tees Valley.

She said: "I was put on the Government's New Deal programme, and was given my own business advisor, who provided me with a lot of helpful advice on self-employment. The assistance I got was brilliant and got to grips with a lot of new skills needed for self-employment."

Terry Owens, chief executive of InBiz, said: "Like a lot of young people, Caroline has special talents which she has put to good use in self-employment. She has turned her dream of running her own business into a reality, and we wish her well for the future."
