ORGANISERS of a North-East animation festival have secured another major name for this year's event.

After attracting special effects legend Ray Harryhausen last year, double Oscar winner Phil Tippet has been confirmed as a guest at the University of Teesside's international animation conference.

Mr Tippet has more than 20 years experience in film animation and won Oscars for his work on the blockbuster films The Return of the Jedi and Jurassic Park.

He has also worked on RoboCop, Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back.

Held on Thursday and Friday, January 31 and February 1, Animation 2002 is the university's third celebration of animation.

It will be the focal point for the Animex International Festival of Animation, a four-day extravaganza in Middlesbrough town centre and local schools.

The cost of the conference is £85 for a two-day pass, or £45 for students and the unwaged.
