BUBBLY singer Zoe Birkett has stormed her way into the last six of the ITV Pop Idol competition.
The 16-year-old student from Carmel RC Technology College in Darlington wowed Saturday's show with her live rendition of Street Life from the film Jackie Brown - a song she had heard for the first time only 24 hours earlier.
Zoe had spend the week rehearsing The Power of Love by Jennifer Rush. The show's theme was movie songs, but on Friday night at 6pm she discovered the track had never appeared in a film.
The crisis did not daunt Zoe and her performance was praised by all three judges. Zoe is now preparing to perform in the Abba-themed show this Saturday.
As part of Saturday's show, a short film will be shown about Zoe and fellow students at Carmel College. Zoe, an A Level student, made a surprise return to her school earlier this week and was presented with a bouquet at a special assembly.
