Junior round-up - Sunderland Tomahawks won a seventeen goal thriller in English Under-19 North A League encounter against Telford Trojans.

Tomahawks came from a 1-3 deficit to defeat their hosts 9-8.

Steven Goldsmith gave Sunderland the lead in the 11th minute and within two minutes Telford had gone 2-1 ahead. A power play goal at 21.19 sent Rockets further ahead. Adam Carr and Michael Allinson tied the scores for 3-3 after 27 minutes. A short-handed Allinson effort at 36.13 gave Sunderland a 4-3 advantage.

Telford drew level only sixteen seconds later but the second period ended with Tomahawks 5-4 ahead after Kristian Lloyd found the net. Seven seconds from the break Tomahawks extended their advantage to three at 46.41 after Carr and Lloyd had scored for a 7-4 advantage. Trojans scored a fifth only for Carr and Lloyd completed their hat tricks as Sunderland went 9-5 ahead at 52.19.

Sunderland pressed the self-destruct button as they allowed Telford to score three and move within one of Tomahawks. However they held on for the last seventy seconds to earn two very valuable points.

Tomahawks scorers: Kristian Lloyd 3+3, Adam Carr 3 + 1, Michael Allinson 2+0, Steven Goldsmith 1+1, Keith Barker 0+2, Jonathan Heslop and Dean Hamilton 0+1.

The same two clubs met at English Junior (Under-16) North A League in the North-East when Sunderland Arrows hosted Telford Rockets at Hillheads, Whitley Bay. Arrows had Michael Allinson back from England Under-16 duty in their line-up as they look to move away from promotion/relegation zone.

Telford in the top half of the table went ahead short-handed in the eight minute for a 1-0 first period lead. Rockets added a second on the power play at 15.35 and goals either side of the second interval eased Telford into a 4-0 lead.

Sunderland broke their deadlock from an Allinson strike after 39 minutes Telford wrapped up the win with goals in the 42nd and 43rd minutes.

Arrows scorer: Michael Allinson 1+0.

Billingham Falcons were at Hillheads facing Whitley Mohawks in English Pee-Wee (Under-14) North A League. Falcons in mid-table found Mohawks difficult to breakdown in the early stages as Mohawks held their Teesside neighbours.

Michael Farn put Falcons ahead at 13.27 and three minutes later Jamie Kitching put Billingham 2-0 ahead with just fifteen seconds remaining of the first period Robert Dowd added a third. Three minutes into the final period Farn grabbed his second of the game to complete with scoring.

Whitley battled on but found James Flavell in Falcons net in fine form as he faced sixteen shots for his shoot-out.

Falcons scorers: Michael Farn 2+0, Robert Dowd 1+1, Jamie Kitching 1+0, Paul Smith 0+2.
