LAND next to a working quarry next to Catterick Village playing field is to be turned into public open space.
Five acres of land will be made available to the public, despite objections from quarry operators RMC Aggregates, who said the chance of trespass would be increased, leading to a risk of danger.
Natalie Snowball, planning officer, told Richmondshire planning committee that the same objection was raised when allocation of the land as open space was included in the Local Plan.
The inspector who dealt with the inquiry ruled the allocation should go ahead and any concerns about trespass should be overcome by securely fencing the area.
