THE longest-serving mobile warden at Richmondshire District Council is retiring after many years of caring for the elderly and disabled.
Margaret Hughes, who retires at the end of this month, has worked for the Council's Lifeline Service since its inception in 1988 and is the only original member of the team.
Margaret is one of four mobile wardens within the Service and was responsible for the north eastern area of the district including villages such as Aldbrough St John, Barton, Croft, Gilling West and Stapleton.
John Blackie, Leader of Richmondshire District Council, said: "Margaret has been a wonderful ambassador for one of the Council's flagship services. We wish her a long and happy retirement."
Senior housing officer Gavin White added: "No matter what time of the day or night she is called upon, Margaret is always cheerful and friendly. She has a great sense of humour. I am sure she will be greatly missed."
