Middlesbrough remain perilously close to the relegation zone after they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Jean Tigana's Fulham on Saturday.

The newly promoted Cottages thoroughly deserved their win despite suffering an early setback when Colin Cooper put the visitors in front.

A mix-up between Edwin van der Sar and Sylvain Legwinski allowed Cooper in to head Boro in front after just eight minutes.

Tigana introduced Louis Saha for Legwinski after 35 minutes and just five minutes later the Frenchman equalised with a diving header, just moments after keeper Mark Crossley had denied Barry Hayles with a brilliant save.

Saha was again involved for Fulham's second when he set up Steve Marlet on the stroke of half-time.

Steve McClaren's men are now just one point above the the third relegation spot.
