STAFF at a residential home in County Durham put their life saving skills to the test recently when a young hedgehog was found in the grounds of the home.
Kitchen assistant Colin Slowther spotted the hedgehog in distress at Helen McArdle's Westerleigh residential home in Scott Street, in Stanley.
The hedgehog was taken to the hedgehog rescue shelter in Sunniside, County Durham. It will be released in spring when it has grown.
As a result of the recent encounter staff have launched their own hedgehog rescue appeal.
