POLITICAL issues of the day will be thrashed out when the BBC's Question Time discussion programme is screened from the North-East later this month.
Sunderland's Crowtree Leisure Centre, where the first results at the last three General Elections were announced, plays host to question master David Dimbleby and four guests from across the political divide, on Thursday, January 24.
Although yet to be confirmed, the line-up is expected to include Sunderland-born Government Chief Whip Hilary Armstrong, the North West Durham MP since 1987, plus Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, John Bercow, and feisty Scots broadcaster Muriel Gray.
It will be the first time in its two decade history that the political question and answer session has been staged in Sunderland.
Programme editor Nick Pisani said the Question Time team is looking forward to its stay in Sunderland.
Councillor Brian Dodds, the city council's cabinet member with portfolio for leisure, said he was delighted Sunderland would receive further high profile national exposure.
Members of the public wishing to join the 150-strong audience can apply by contacting programme producers on (0901) 114411.
