THE completion of the latest phase of a market place revamp scheme will lead to the closure of several one-way streets in the centre of Ripon.

Starting next Saturday, the three-week closure order will affect High Skellgate, Westgate, Market Place West and Fishergate.

North Yorkshire's environmental services director, Mike Moore, said: "Major works of this nature, particularly when carried out in busy commercial areas, inevitably cause disruption.

"We appreciate the patience which has been shown already by the people of Ripon and the business community.

"We hope they will bear with us a little bit longer because once the revamp is completed we are confident that it will be of enormous benefit to the city and its many visitors."

The multi-million pound project has been financed by the Heritage Lottery Fund, North Yorkshire County Council and Harrogate Borough Council
