Graduates in fly-past

STUDENT pilots at RAF Linton-on-Ouse, near York, will graduate on Friday. Between 9am and mid-day there will be unusual air activity when several aircraft overfly the unit, in tribute to the efforts of the students in passing the course. There will also be a flypast of 9 Tucano aircraft. Members of the public can view the flypast at the station viewing area on the Linton to Aldwark road.

Nursing boost: Wards Building Components of Sherburn, Malton, have given £1,000 to the Macmillan Nurses Cancer Fund in lieu of Christmas cards to customers. Frank Atkinson of the company's marketing department said "We sent out e-mail festive greetings, explaining to our customers that the £1000 we would normally spend on greetings cards was going to the cancer charity and they welcomed the idea."

APPEAL DISMISSED: An appeal to the planning inspectorate against Hambleton District Council's decision to refuse planning permission for change of use from domestic garage to commercial garage for LPG gas conversions at Greenhow Hill Farm at Great Ayton has been dismissed on the grounds that the development would be unacceptable in the location.

ROAD WORKS:

Resurfacing work on Foss Islands Road in York will commence today and will last for three weeks. The work will be carried out between 6pm and midnight, Monday to Saturday to reduce traffic problems in light of the Copmanthorpe roadworks, but preparation works will be carried out during the day.

COFFEE CLUB: Bedale District Ladies' Coffee Club meets on Wednesday, at 8pm, at the Lodge at Leeming Bar when Audrey Carr speaks on growing up in Richmond. Inquiries on (01677) 424652.

ANNUAL MEETING: The annual meeting of the Mechanics Institute in Kirkby Malzeard will be held on Monday, February 4, at 7.30pm. Tea and biscuits will be served from 7.15pm.

COFFEE MORNING: The Brompton-on-Swale Methodist Church will hold a coffee morning at Richmond Town Hall on Thursday, from 9am to noon.

MOORS RAILWAY: The North Yorkshire Moors Railway association meets at the County Arms in Northallerton High Street on Wednesday, at 7.30pm, Guest speaker will be Keith Chapman.

Coffee morning: A coffee morning in aid of Hospice Homecare will be held in Harmby village hall on Saturday, January 26, from 10am. The event includes a produce stall and raffle.
