Elderly driver freed from car

An elderly woman was airlifted to hospital after her car overturned on the A689 at Eastgate, Weardale. The woman, who is believed to have been shocked but not injured, was cut free by firefighters after the accident at 11am yesterday. She was treated at Durham University Hospital. No other vehicles were involved.

MOPED STOLEN: A Peugeot Speedflight 50cc moped, registration W536 MHN, worth £1,500, was stolen from the yard of a house in Skipton Close, Ferryhill, between 2am and 5pm on Saturday.

HOUSE BURGLED: £25 in cash and a Goodman GCE54 car stereo were stolen by burglars from a house in Rowan Place, Newton Aycliffe, between 8.30pm and 10.15pm on Friday.

SHED RAID: A Qualcast petrol lawnmower, a large engineering drill stand and a Black and Decker industrial jigsaw stand were stolen from a garden shed in Coronation Avenue, Shildon, between 10pm on Saturday and 8.30am yesterday.

HOME PLAN: Teesdale District Council has received a planning application for the change of use of 7 Churchill Road, Barnard Castle, from a house to a residential care home.

THERAPY CENTRE: Thomas Norton has applied to Teesdale District Council for planning permission to turn 82a Galgate, Barnard Castle, from a private home into a beauty therapy centre.
