SWIMMER Christopher Surtees has been given a cash boost to help with a gruelling training schedule.
The teenager, from Hunwick, near Crook, has been presented with a cheque for £250 from Crook Rotary Club.
Christopher, who has already represented his country, told members of the Rotary Club that a typical week's training involves travelling to Middlesbrough seven times a week before and after school, as well as studying for his A-levels at St John's School, Bishop Auckland.
He is national schools champion for intermediate boys in the 100 metres butterfly and former international schools champion at junior level. He has competed in international competitions in Luxemburg, Germany, Jersey and Eire, gaining gold and silver medals.
The sponsorship was given to Christopher by the Rotary Club in conjunction with the Sportsaid Foundation.
