A SCHOOL has received top marks in an inspection report.

Headteacher Judy Butchart, said Offsted's description of Dormanstown Primary School, near Redcar, as "exemplary" was a tribute to pupils and parents as well as governors and teachers.

Government inspectors classed the school as very effective, providing very good value for money.

The report stated: "The school's practice in supporting pupils of all abilities, circumstances and backgrounds is exemplary. The quality of teaching is very high across almost all of the classes and the ethos of the school has a very positive effect on pupils' behaviour and attitudes."

Mrs Butchart, praised for showing strong leadership, said: "We are delighted with the report. It is a real tribute to all the hard work by everyone in our school community - the children, the staff, the parents and the governors."

The school is praised for its integrated approach to three special education units.

The report described the provision for pupils with special educational needs as very good and said the school planned for individual needs.

It said more improvement in English, science and maths would be evident if results had not been adversely affected by the inclusion of test results from pupils with considerable learning difficulties.

They said: "The school needs to sustain the high quality of teaching and extend the innovative arrangements for literacy, numeracy and science so that pupils' standards, as measured in national tests, improve further."
