A PLAY performed on Teesside is being kept in the family.

Amateur actor Steve Chis-holm is playing stage husband to his teenage daughter. Mr Chisholm, a member of the Middlesbrough Little Theatre Company, sees no problem being "married" to 19-year-old Rachel in what is described as an earthy adult comedy.

He said: "There are no compromising scenes, otherwise I wouldn't have taken the part. Despite her youth, Rachael, is an experienced actress who has been a member of the National Youth Theatre for the past four years and has appeared at places like the Royal Albert Hall and the Lyric Theatre in London.

"We do, however, have an agreement that her role will be left at the theatre door at the end of each performance. One wife at home is enough for anyone," he said. The cast of five players reckon when John Godber's play On a Night Like This opens, it will be curtain up on the play's international amateur debut. It runs at The Middlesbrough Theatre from January 28 for a week. For ticket information telephone (0642) 815181.
