PLANS to grant a public entertainment licence to a pub in Hartlepool look set to go ahead despite objections from neighbouring residents.

Members of Hartlepool Borough Council's planning and licensing panel will meet on Thursday to discuss the licence application for The Greensides in Stockton Road.

The licence will allow the pub to hold public music, singing and dancing on the ground floor, from 11am to 11pm on weekdays and noon to 10.30pm on Sundays.

However, local residents feel their peace and quiet will be disrupted.

In a letter to the council, one said: "We live in a small secluded cul-de-sac and our property is very near the pub.

"The last thing we need is a public house blasting out loud disco-type music."

To minimise disturbance, it has been suggested that entertainment should be restricted to karaoke only in the front lounge and be subject to a sound insulation scheme.
