A SECOND person was being interviewed by police last night following an accident involving a stolen car which left an innocent motorist seriously injured.

The 33-year-old man, who has not been named, remain-ed in a critical condition in Newcastle General Hospital yesterday three days after suffering severe head injuries when his Peugeot 206 was shunted from behind by a Vauxhall Cavalier, in Seaham, County Durham.

It caused the Peugeot to veer over to the other side of Princess Road, where it collided with a Ford Mondeo taxi. The Cavalier, taken in Duke Street, Seaham, earlier on Friday, collided with two parked cars, before the three occupants ran from the scene.

A 15-year-old Seaham youth voluntarily attended the town's police station, accompanied by his parents, on Sunday afternoon.

He was interviewed before being released on police bail pending further inquiries.

A 20-year-old local man was arrested in Seaham at lunch-time yesterday and was taken to Peterlee police station where he was undergoing questioning last night.

Witnesses to the accident, which happened shortly before 10pm on Friday, are asked to call Durham Police traffic unit, on 0191-386 4929, Seaham police station, on 0191-581 2255, or Crimestoppers, on (0800) 555111
