A TRAINING package is in place to help people on Tyneside make the most of opportunities in the region's booming call centre industry.

The training programme, called 2-4-2, is backed by the European Social Fund and aims to create a ready workforce to take up jobs in the industry.

The first course starts on January 28, when 144 people will be trained to begin work in the industry.

The move is going ahead thanks to South Tyneside Economic Development Team, which secured £80,000 from the EC to boost its own fund that provides cash backing to help organisations create courses aimed at getting unemployed people back into work.

Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI), based in Hebburn, has been awarded the contract to deliver the new training project in association with South Tyneside College.

Trainees will be given cash support to help with child care costs and travel expenses.

Anyone who is interested in the new training opportunities should contact RBLI on 0191-483 4552
