Party nights are lined up

Organisers of the Friday night music nights at The Beamish Mary at No Place, near Stanley reckon their February programme will prove a hit. On February 1 world party night with music from around the globe will be free, February 8 will be buskers night, again free, February 15 will be a jazz night, tickets £1.50 and on February 22 the ever popular The Scratch Band will play, tickets £1.50.

HOMES PLANS: Derwentside District Council is being asked to grant outline planning permission for residential development at Oxhill Farm, Oxhill, Stanley. The council is also being asked to renew the outline permission given for two detached homes to be built at the Methodist Church, West Road, Tantobie.

PANTO DATE: The pantomime Jackie and the Beanstalk will be performed by Jack Drum Arts at the Wood View Community Centre, Langley Park, on Saturday, at 2.15pm. Tickets cost £3, children and pensioners £1.50, and are available on the day or from Reay's Newsagents, Londis and Forthergill's Pies, all in Langley Park, or at Est Post Office.

CLOSING RUN: Two exhibitions, Ikons of Identity and The Magic of Masks and Puppets, are in the last week of their run at the dli, at Aykley Heads, Durham. The displays, which opened in December, close on Sunday. For details call the museum on 0191-384 2214.

COUNCIL SURGERY: Easington district councillors Joe Goodwin, Frank Shaw and Charles Walker are holding a surgery for people in the Dawdon ward on Monday, between 6pm and 7pm in Dawdon Miners Welfare Centre, Mount Stewart Street, Dawdon.

GIVE BLOOD: People can give blood at a donor session at the community centre in Tunstall Village Road, Silksworth, from 2.30pm to 7pm tomorrow.

MORE ROOM: Durham City Council is being asked to grant planning permission for a pitched roof extension, to create two bedrooms at a house in Blanchland Avenue, Durham.

STEEL WALK: A ten-mile walk in the Consett area, called Ring of Steel, will be led by countryside ranger Michael Jones. It starts at 10am tomorrow from the Rowley Station Picnic Area off the A68 at Castleside. Walkers should take a packed lunch. The walk costs £2, concessions £1.

CHARITY SALE: The Elvet Charities Supporters' Group is holding a "something for everyone" sale on Saturday, January 26, at 2pm, in The Institute, Church Street, Durham. Admission is 10p
