A PROJECT kicks off tonight to capture match-day images during the last months at Darlington Football Club's Feethams ground.

Members of Darlington Supporters' Trust and local photographers have been waiting to start a photo project to mark the end of league football at the ground.

However, icy temperatures meant the postponement of the last three Darlington home matches over Christmas and New Year.

Now those behind the Farewell to Feethams project hope the FA Cup will present some photographic opportunities, with the prospect of a fourth round tie with Newcastle United, if the Quakers can beat Peterborough tonight in their rearranged tie.

Hundreds of photographs will be taken at Feethams during the next few months, leading up to the final match in April.

A dozen professional and amateur photographers, working four at a time, will capture the match day atmosphere, fans and the old stadium itself.

A collection of 40 of the best images will be the centre-piece of an exhibition at Darlington Arts Centre over six weeks, opening in July.

The trust also hopes to show old archive photos and memorabilia from fans in the exhibition

"We've been frustrated by the weather lately, but the cup draw has made up for that," said one of the organisers, Steve Duffy, from Darlington Supporters' Trust.

"The Peterborough game will now be an exciting night to start - and the thought of playing Newcastle in a couple of weeks would be history being made."

The trust hopes to make Farewell to Feethams a real community event. We want to mark what will be for many supporters an emotional occasion, as well as an historic landmark for the town. We are all looking forward to the move to the new stadium. But this will give us something unique - and a permanent reminder of the old ground."
