A MAN who has helped promote the region's greatest seafarer has received a civic thank you for his years of service.
Bernard Connolly is standing down after 27 years as master of ceremonies at the Captain Cook birthday celebrations in Middlesbrough.
Mr Connolly was one of the founders of the annual ceremony, which attracts people from all over the country. He was also instrumental in starting the group, which promotes the work of Cook to a worldwide audience.
Yesterday, Mr Connolly and fellow members of the group met Middlesbrough Mayor Pat Walker. He was also given a small presentation by his colleagues.
Coun Walker said: "Bernard has done so much to promote the exploits of Captain Cook. The event has gone from strength to strength during the years and Bernard has been very much a feature of its success."
