PENSIONERS and people with disabilities living in the Redcar and east Cleveland area are reminded that their birthdays have an additional significance.
Since May last year, concessionary bus passes issued to 12,000 pensioners and eligible disabled residents have only been valid until the last day of their birthday month.
The pass must be renewed every year and this can be done at local libraries during the birthday month.
However, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council said figures for December indicate that many people are forgetting. This means they will have to pay the full bus fare if their pass is out of date.
Councillor Sylvia Szintai, lead member for the environment and infrastructure, said: "We believe the idea is still a good one.
"Maybe it was the hectic time around Christmas that made people forget. We hope that's the case and it's why we are issuing a gentle reminder now."
