A DEVOTED Westlife fan saw her dreams come true after she got to meet her heroes - minutes after being told she could not watch their concert.

Fifteen-year-old Kaydee Urwin, of Coulby Newham, Middlesbrough, went to Durham City on Sunday with her mother, Tracey, to watch a live screening of a performance the boy band gave at the newly-opened Gala Theatre.

However, when she arrived at the city's Sixth Form Centre she discovered the outdoor event had been cancelled and only those with tickets for the sold-out indoor gig would get to see the show.

"I was crying my eyes out," she said. "We were talking to this bodyguard and then this man came out of the theatre and said: 'Does anybody want to go to the concert.' The bodyguard just lifted me off the barriers and said 'She'll go'."

The starstruck teenager, a pupil at Newlands School, barely had chance to thank her fairy godmother - an unnamed Durham councillor whose niece was unable to attend because of illness - before she was whisked backstage by a member of the band's entourage and introduced to the Irish singers.

"It was absolutely brilliant. They were so nice and I got to see the concert and meet them again afterwards. The man who gave me the ticket is my hero."

A theatre spokeswoman said the outdoor screening was cancelled due to lack of interest. "We didn't phone everyone with tickets directly, but we did our utmost to make sure people knew and it was in all the newspapers. There was a handful of people who turned up and were disappointed."
