THREE paintings of the Durham Miners' Gala have gone on permanent display in east Durham.

The artwork is by George Robson, a former National Union of Mineworkers official, who helps organise the Big Meeting.

The paintings were commissioned by Easington District Council and are at the Easington Resource Centre, Easington Colliery, the council's offices in Seaside Lane, Easington Village, and at the Murton Resource Centre.

Mr Robson is one of 17 artists featured in the brochure Easington Art, and one of his paintings has been included in the Government art collection.

Easington Resource Centre is usually open during normal working hours, but visitors should call 0191-527 1220 before setting out.

Murton Resource Centre and the council's offices in Seaside Lane, Easington Village, are open Mondays to Thursdays, from 8.30am to 5pm, and on Fridays between 8.30am and 4.30pm.

For a copy of Easington Art, call the council's arts development officer, Dave Clarke, on 0191-527 0501, extensions 2238/2281
