ORGANISERS of a city development project are to outline its progress and future plans.

Those behind Fresh Thinking, a strategy for Sunderland, are inviting influential people from across the North-East to a meeting, on Thursday, February 28.

Colin Sinclair, chief executive of Sunderland City Council, said: "We have chosen to hold this event at the Exchange Building, in High Street West, as it provides an excellent opportunity to showcase this exceptional example of conservation and restoration prior to its re-opening, in the spring.

"Sunderland city centre has come a long way, but this is just the beginning. It is time to step up the activities and drive Fresh Thinking forward."

It will include presentations by John Montgomery, of Urban Cultures, Nick Freer, of David Lock Associates and Graeme Bell, of the North-East Civic Trust, who will offer insights into potential opportunities.

Delegates will have the chance to comment on proposals by David Lock Associates, who are updating a plan on how Sunderland city centre's planning framework and city centre boundaries should develop.

An update will be given on the city's night-time economy, including the commissioning of a statement detailing Sunderland's position and vision on trading and licensing.

There will also be workshops under the headings of Capitalising on Conservation, New Developments, Evening Economy and Maximising Tourism, Culture and Leisure.
