RICHMONDSHIRE Cricket Club will continue to hold its annual Valentine's party in memory of organiser Sue Leyburn.

Members agreed to continue with the event on February 16 as a fitting tribute to 51-year-old Mrs Leyburn, who died of cancer last year.

The evening features the Bob Mallet rock and roll show, supported by local singer Gerry Hodgson.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Oak Mount elderly people's home, in Northallerton, where Mrs Leyburn worked.

Close friend Pauline Dowse, who has taken over the organisation of the party, said: "Outside of her family, Sue's main love was music and we sang together in a group called Pink Satin.

"She always enjoyed a laugh and continuing this party is a fitting tribute to her memory.

"Sue worked at Oak Mount and really felt that she helped the residents to make the most of their lives - a quality she displayed during her last few months.

"Before she passed away, Sue asked me to continue the Valentine's party and I was very proud to do this in her name."

Tickets cost £3.50 from Mrs Dowse on (01748) 822840, or Richmondshire Cricket Club on (01748) 824573.
