DETECTIVES are eager to hear from shoppers and office workers heading home from a town centre who may have information about a masked robbery at a travel agents.

Two raiders, wielding a kitchen knife and a screwdriver, escaped with several thousands of pounds of cash - both sterling and foreign - and travellers cheques from Callers Pegasus in Middle Street, Consett, County Durham, just after 5pm on Tuesday.

The pair threatened three women staff before running to a car park in Albert Road, behind Middle Street.

The staff were left shaken but unharmed. No customers were in the shop at the time.

Both men were described as having local accents. One was described as stocky, in his late teens or early 20s, 5ft 7ins with brown hair, a spotty neck and wearing a red padded jacket and white trainers.

His accomplice was of thin build, in his early 20s and about 5ft 11ins. He was wearing a navy or black jacket with a white stripe or motif across the front.
