AN inquest into the death of a man whose body was pulled out of the River Skerne earlier this month was opened and adjourned yesterday.
John William Johnstone's body was finally identified by fingerprint records after a former girlfriend came forward in response to police appeals for help in identifying the body.
Police and a fire brigade boat crew were involved in the recovery of Mr Johnstone's body from the river, near Russell Street, in Darlington.
South Durham and Darlington Coroner Colin Penna opened the inquest at Darlington police station, but adjourned the hearing until a consultant pathologist could complete his investigations.
Mr Johnstone, 42, had lived alone at a flat in St John's Crescent, Darlington.
