MORE than 40 people turned up on a damp and windy morning to join in the launch of a health walks initiative in Newton Aycliffe.
Despite the weather, the participants enjoyed the 30 minute walk to and from the Pioneering Care Centre, which took in parts of the Great Aycliffe Way.
The walk was organised by the Pioneering Care Partnership and the Princess Royal Trust for Carers.
Janet Price, events and participation co-ordinator for the partnership, said: "We are amazed at the response we have had.
"It was great to see so many people, all of different fitness levels, join in the walk."
The short walk, followed by a buffet lunch, marked the launch of a new programme of walks taking place around Newton Aycliffe over the next few months.
The walks, led by trained volunteers, are aimed at people who do little exercise and want to improve their health or meet new people.
Everyone is welcome on the walks and no special equipment, other than comfortable shoes, is needed.
