AMATEUR and professional artists are displaying their work together at an exhibition on the North Yorkshire coast.

The East Coast Open exhibition has been launched at Scarborough Art Gallery, with more than 300 works on display.

Guest selectors Mary Butler, of Crescent Arts, and Tracy Teasdale, of the Ferens Art Gallery, Hull, chose 70 works.

Dr Jane Mee, of Scarborough Museums and Gallery, said: "As in previous years, the art gallery was overwhelmed by the response from the region's artists and their interest in showing work at Scarborough Art Gallery."

The exhibition runs until February 16, and the gallery is open from 11am to 4pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
